On June 27, Malaysian police announced details of the cash, jewelry, and designer bags they recovered from the search of 6 houses related to former Prime Minister Najib.

In an exclusive interview with news website Malaysiakini yesterday, Mr. Najib said that he, like all other husbands, was unaware of the size of his jewelry collection as well as the items that were considered expensive brands.

“It also depends on the origin of the rocks.

The former Malaysian Prime Minister said many of the pieces of jewelry seized did not belong to his wife, Rosmah Mansor, but to his daughter Nooryana Najwa and her husband and mother-in-law.

“Let us see all those items, one by one, and we hope to have a chance to verify them.

When asked whether he had informed his wife of the latest statistics from the police on the number of assets seized, the former Malaysian Prime Minister said that his wife was surprised at the number of items disclosed.

“She didn’t believe the value was that great.

“We need to know when to (buy/give) these gifts, such as jewelry.

According to former Prime Minister Najib, accepting gifts is not considered an illegal act.

“Mr Mahathir Mohamad received 40 horses from friends and foreign leaders, and he also openly used his friends’ planes.

“During my many years as a government leader, we have been given many items by foreign leaders as well as friends, and I know that according to the law, accepting gifts is not illegal.

Mr. Najib said that it is not uncommon for world leaders to give gifts to each other.

“For some monarchs in some countries around the world, giving expensive gifts is part of their culture.

Mr. Najib shared that he intends to open an exhibition space and place all the gifts he received there, similar to the museum with 9,000 items of Prime Minister Mahathir in Langkawi.

“That was my intention, to put the gifts in a display because I never actually use those items.
